So on Thursday October 8th, the 90 kids at Southwest Key’s East Austin College Prep Academy, have the opportunity to talk to, listen and learn from one of the premiere dancers from the world of dance.

The inspirational Hope1Ms. Hope Boykin, who is a three-time recipient of the American Dance Festival’s Young Tuition Scholarship, will be spending  time with our 6th grade students, right here in East Austin. Exposing our students to the visual and performing arts is just one of the ways our innovative school is transforming the face of education in Austin.

Ms. Boykin attended Howard University and performed with Lloyd Whitmore’s New World Dance Company in Washington, DC. Ms. Boykin was a student and intern at The Ailey School. She was assistant to the late Talley Beatty and an original member of Complexions. Ms. Boykin was a member of Philadanco and received a New York Dance and Performance “Bessie” Award. In 2005, Ms. Boykin choreographed Acceptance in Surrender in collaboration with Abdur-Rahim Jackson and Matthew Rushing for AAADT. She joined the Alvin Ailiey Company in 2000.

Who knows what impact she will leave on their young hearts and minds? But one thing I know for sure is they will be different for the experience.
