Travis County Judicial Races – Judges Forum

Southwest Key Programs (SWK) moved its national headquarters into the heart of Austin’s East side for a reason.  We pride ourselves on being a part of the community we serve, and our community center acts as a host for many neighborhood events. We provide a much needed middle school, job training, leadership development, a Boys & Girls Club, arts and cultural activities, family support programs and much more.

SWK are hosting, and the East Austin Leadership Development Program invites you to attend two Travis County Election Judges Forums. Many citizens are unaware that judges are elected here, and their decisions could well affect you or someone in your family. So here is your chance to meet the candidates and hear their views first hand.

The contested race forums will be held in our community room located at 6002, Jain Lane, Austin.

Dec 8 – Criminal Court Races – 5.30-8pm

Dec 15 – Civil Court Races – 5.30-8pm

Hope to see you there, this is your chance to hear for yourself from the Travis County Judges contesting the upcoming judicial elections in early 2010.

Veteran’s Day, Honoring Those Who Serve

Southwest Key Casa Esperanza celebrated their first Veteran’s Day Function by recognizing those staff currently employed who served a branch of the military.

Four members were recognized and presented with US Flags and a poem by members of our student council.  The president of the student council read the significance of Veteran’s Day Celebration, but the most touching moment came when one of the residents recited the Pledge of Allegiance.  Keep in mind these are residents whose language is Spanish, yet with such clarity he was able to lead his peers and those in the audience without error or hesitation.

He then finished by stating that “even though he was leaving the following day, his stay at the facility and the opportunity to have participated in this ceremony will forever be a lasting memory in his heart and mind.  One couldn’t have asked for a more fitting honor.  Freedom was symbolized by this child’s appreciation of this great nation and those that protect it.

Open House Thursday Nov 5, 4.30-7pm

Please join us for an open house here, Thursday Nov 5,  at the Southwest Keys Campus and tour the just opened East Austin College Prep Academy (EACPA), located at 6002 Jain Lane, Austin, TX 78721. Stay for 5 minutes or 2.5 hours.

Boy with backback

The EACPA is a charter middle school for East Austin youth managed by Southwest Key Programs. Tired of waiting for East Austin schools to improve,  SWK took the initiative and opened the charter school, enrolling 90 sixth graders in August.

The students at EACPA follow an innovative, award-winning curriculum based on the YES College Prep model in Houston, a model ranked among the top 100 schools in America by U.S. News & World Report. Students receive a strong foundation in math, science and technology, while enjoying a balanced program that encourages the arts and community service.

This is your opportunity to see for yourself the difference a quality education makes to support the community on the East Side which has been neglected for so long.

Light snacks and refreshments will be served.
Thank you for taking a look.
